If you’ve ever been jealous of your girlfriend’s underwear, Homme Mystere has just the thing.
Homme Mystere is a men’s underwear line, with a more feminine touch.
The line was designed by Brent Krause and his wife. Krause’s creations are underwear for men, that take on what are stereotypically seen as women’s fabrics and cuts.
According to Krause the designer couple “Always wanted to make something a little bit different,” Krause said.
Krause’s wife first came up with the idea and initial designs while on maternity leave with the couple’s first daughter. Most of Homme Mystere’s customers are just like them the designer has found out. He sends out surveys to find out more about customers and what they like.
“90 percent are heterosexual, and 60 percent are married in a heterosexual relationship.”
Homme Mystere is started out of Australia, where Krause and his wife live and the line is sold primarily through the internet.
The initial reception to the Krause’s designs was was “Shock.” he said. “Most people were really surprised, particularily here in Australia.”
Though they were shocked, people seemed to warm up to the idea. Krause was soon approached by men who wanted items for themselves.
“They’d ask me ‘Can you make a bra?’ ‘Can you make a camisole?’ ” Krause said.
Now the online lingerie store is transitioning into their first in-person retail experience.
“We’re meeting designers and doing a showroom,” Krause said. Ideally the showroom will be up and running in time for Christmas.
New and different designs for Homme Mystere will always keep churning out. Not only are all items sold one time only (when designs are sold out there is no restocking or reproductions), but Krause quite enjoys what he does.
“There’s a lot of satisfaction you get out of doing something you really love to do,” Krause said.
